set up wireless card as a repeater?

BTW I just did a flash of my AP1000 and it now works as an AP and a
repeater. There is a drop down box to let me choose now. I am not sure of
the license cost because we bought hundreds of APs with a full support
contract.

But isn't the outdoor router an extra (as in additional cost) bit of
firmware?  Otherwise folk would just buy Orinoco AP1000s and flash them to
ROR, COR, etc.  Or am I missing some subtle trick here?
