Yes, you can use a Samba DC with an external dns
No, you cannot update the dns records in AD from an external dns server.
I have heard of people setting up an external DNS server and then
somehow keep this and the Samba dns server in sync, not an easy job.
Most people (by this I mean about 99.99% of users) setup the the samba
AD dns domain as a subdomain of their main dns domain i.e. if the main
dns domain is 'example.com', they would use 'samdom.example.com'. All
the domain joined computers would use the DC as their nameserver and
anything outside the domain (google for instance) is forwarded to a dns
server outside the AD dns domain.

As I said, it is possible to use an external dns server, but really only
as a forwarder.

I take it you didn't read the Samba wiki before setting up your AD domain.
