I am using Debian Wheezy 64bit.

"rsync --version" says:

rsync version 3.0.9 protocol version 30
Copyright (C) 1996-2011 by Andrew Tridgell, Wayne Davison, and others.
Web site: http://rsync.samba.org/
Capabilities:
    64-bit files, 64-bit inums, 64-bit timestamps, 64-bit long ints,
socketpairs, hardlinks, symlinks, IPv6, batchfiles, inplace,
    append, ACLs, xattrs, iconv, symtimes

So it seems that rsync is supporting xattrs. Let's check unison (https://packages.debian.org/de/wheezy/utils/unison) ...

"unison -version" says:

unison version 2.40.65

Unfortunately it doesn't show the compiled options. So on my host I downloaded the source for the Debian Wheezy package "unison" and looked into "debian/rules". I couldn't find anything related to xattr. A global search with "rgrep -r -i xattr ." didn't output anything :( That's suspicious that unison cannot handle extended attributes. Good point Chan, maybe here's the culprit? I am not a pro, but maybe someone else can tell us more about unison and xattr support. The mailing list of unison here (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/unison-users/search/messages?query=xattr) didn't help either to find a suitable answer.

Mirco.
