[Samba] Samba net share vs. Windows net view

Does anyone know how it is possible that using samba tools to enumerate
windows shares provides more information then using Windows tools? For
example, when running 'net share -S hostname' I am able to see all shares
(including hidden) on that host with a non-priviledged account but when
using Windows tools this cannot be done, that I know of anyway.
