[Samba] Samba locking issue

I am having an issue with Samba not allowing locks.  I am trying to use
Samba shares as home directories for client PCs.  Any lock, for example,

/usr/X11R6/bin/xauth:  error in locking authority file
/home/davidd/.Xauthority

Or if I try to start a GNOME session, it pukes because it can't lock.

The smb.conf is fairly standard, so I won't include it here.

I can include any sort of logs that will help.
