For the record, I answer myself and to the list:

Samba-2.2 recognizes Samba-2.0's smbpasswd file without any need of
export/conversion.

You should not need to worry about it. The formats are compatible,
samba-2.2.x might make small adjustments if it finds a 2.0.x file (I don't
quit remember, but we didn't have any issues migrating from 2.0.7 to 2.2.0
on our productio DC).
