[Samba] samba as fileserver backup fileserver

The only way I've seen this work in the windows world is via an active
directory enabled DFS share. DFS provides a virtual root for the file shares
and sits on your DC's (replicated in case of trouble) and can point to as
many copies of the data as you like for replication and fault tollerance.
Though I seriously doubt you'll be able to replicate this seamlessly with
Samba (sadly...) PLEASE let me know if you manage it.
