[Samba] Multiple authentication attempts from print server

I have an interesting problem that comes and goes. The setup is a samba
2.2.5/cups 1.1.16 print server that is a domain member with Windows XP
clients that are also part of my domain. When one of the clients attempts
to print, there is a 30 second pause or so before the print dialog box
appears. However, on another client, the print dialog will appear nearly
immediately. Another strange thing is that sometimes, one the same client
with the delayed dialog, a reboot will take care of it -- sometimes.

The logs on the samba print server show that when the client is
experiencing a lot of delays, it is because the print server is doing many
authentication requests out to the domain controller, all returning
"authorise_login: ACCEPTED: validated uid ok as non-guest". When the
client is not experiencing delays in the dialog, only a single
authentication attempt is occurring.

Anybody have ideas as to why this is happening (sometimes)?

Thanks,

Nathan Ehresman
