[Samba] MacOS X and slow samba speeds: sambamount vs. mount_smbfs

Hi all, I've been futzing about trying to get Samba to speed up when running
under MacOS X: currently when I use the Go --> Connect to server -->
smb://machinename/sharename, I get 1mbps on a 10/100mbps router. I have not
made any headway. I ran "top" the last time I went to connect the the
server, and I noticed that "mount_smbfs" is accessed, rather than
"sambamount". As I understand it, these are not the same thing, and
mount_smbfs can't really be tweaked like sambamount can. Am I totally wrong
about this? Do sambamount and mount_smbfs take the same commands (e.g. Can
I just do a ln -s from mount_smbfs to sambamount and expect it to work?) I
was able to speed up windows --> macos x transfers by tweaking the smb.conf
file, but its the mac--> windows transfer which is really frustrating me...
Thanks!
