2.0.5a has a few known problems (not related to this). Why don't you use
smbmount from 2.0.7?

Yes, "protocols older than NT1 are not supported" in 2.2.17. Your
PATHWORKS server is using an older protocol (lanman1?).
It should/may work with 2.4.0-test8 and 2.2.x where x < 16. Does it?
