Poor performance on Samba.

I'm running samba-2.0.7 on RH6.0 .It's in a NT network.And the client is win9x. If I use ftp(write),I can get a 650KB/S.But when using samba,the speed is about 200KB/s.I have tried all the options related to performance,"tcp_option/write raw/max xmit" for example.But none of them have noticable impressions(even bad) on performance.
Any advice?
