Sporadic Authentication Failure

I have Samba 2.0.7 running on Yellow Dog Linux kernel-2.2.17pre16-2 on a PPC
7200.

Everything seems fine with the configuration. But one machine (out of 4 PCs)
has problems connecting sporadically. It's running Win98. Here's the error;

[2000/11/13 13:27:47, 1] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(925)
  Rejecting user 'chris': authentication failed

If I 'smbclient //host/homes -Uchris' I can get in fine (after providing the
password). 

Any suggestions?
