Something funny with :\\<servername>\backup

Dear samba users,

Today I had something strange overhere.
I just create and removed a \\<server>\backup share (it didn't work 
at the beginning but that's not the story).

Now when I do \\<servername\backup at my windows machine this 
directory is mapped to \var\backups on my server!?!?

Is this right or wrong?

My workstations are Win95 OEM rel 2
Server is Debian potato with my own compiled version of samba 
2.0.7 running a readhat 2.2.16-lfs kernel.
