passwords

How does one change passwords in Windows to get the system
to let you map drives. Right now it asks me for a password nad
while I have only ever used/set one password, it doesn't know
the one I enter.

Where is it that this is changed or added?  I know about  the place
in control panel but that is for 'windows', which sounds general.
I need to change it for the NET.
