locking issues

Hello,

I am running a samba file server (2.0.7) on a linux box
(2.2.14).  The samba server seems very slow at certain
times and I believe this has something to with locking.
This is what I get in the logs:

The client side is a mix of 95/98/NT/W2K machines.  The
"reply_lockingX: Error :" comes only from Win2K machines.

How can the performance of the server be improved and
how these timeout can be avoided?  Thanks in advance!
