"veto files" question

I'd like to use "veto files" to hide file beginning with a dot.
"hide dot files" is not sufficient as it relies on the win9x users
having chosen not to show hidden files.

I tried with

veto files = /.*/
but it seems to catch all files, not just the ones beginning with a dot.
