why use lmhost is samba1.9.18.p7

Hello samba gurus

I have used samba1.9.18.p4 since jan/1998. I have FreBSD 2.2.6 and
samba1.9.18p4 worked just fine.
I read in bugtraq that a new version of samba has been released and I
thought in upgrade to samba1.9.18.p7

Well I did the same things that I did when I compiled samba1.9.18.p4
1.Edit the Makefile ( I edit the same lines as samba1.9.18.p4)
2.make
3.make installbin

Everything worked just fine. But...
When I tried to use samba I got this error.


>System error 86 has occurred.

>The specified network password is not correct.

So I read the DIAGNOSIS.txt
When I tried the test 3 I got this message

Perhaps you are using the wrong sharename, username or password?
Some servers insist that these be in uppercase

Well..
I am using the same smb.conf that I used with samba1.9.18.p4
Samba1.9.18p4 used to work just fine and now samba1.9.18.p7 is giving me
those errors.

I would like to now:
1. Why samba asks for lmhosts? It never asked before.
2. Why samba got the error SMBtconX (Bad password). I read in
DIAGNOSIS.txt that I should not use "valid users","host alow" in smb.conf
But I am using the same smb.conf, and I didnt use "valid users".

I would like to thank anyone that can help-me

PS: Forgive me  if I  mispelled something. I really need to
