I immediately confess to knowing nothing about ACLs.  But I seem to recall
that different OSes had different versions/implementations/opinions of
ACL-like activity.

So (admittedly from an outside perspective based on hazy memory!) the
suggestion of an "acl-API" would seem to be a sensible model.  Allow Samba
to interface to possibly OS-specific ACLs, rather than hardwiring one
specific ACL type (POSIX) directly into samba core-code.

Just a thought...
