hi Richard!

> The Domain Master Browser is not elected as such.
yes... but why doesn´t samba work correctly as DMB?
About every 30 seconds i´ll get this message:
---------
[1999/12/20 14:36:47, 10] nmbd/nmbd_sendannounce.c:announce_myself_to_domain_master_browser(406)
  announce_myself_to_domain_master_browser: t (945696999) - last(945696959) < 900
--------
and every LMB causes this message:
--------
[1999/12/20 14:37:28, 10] nmbd/nmbd_sendannounce.c:announce_myself_to_domain_master_browser(406)
  announce_myself_to_domain_master_browser: t (945697047) - last(945696959) < 900
process_master_browser_announce: Local master announce made to us from LARA IP 193.197.134.7 and we are not a domain master browser.
--------

On the other hand, a LMB tells me:
--------
[1999/12/20 14:42:06, 2] nmbd/nmbd_synclists.c:complete_sync(270)
sync with MAIL1(193.197.132.2) for workgroup LINUX-AG completed (3 records)
--------
(at the same time the DMB logs "and we are not a domain master browser")

Further i can´t understand, why in the following log-info the host Pinguin is a master browser:
(log infos shorten...)
--------
[1999/12/20 13:56:51, 4] nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:dump_workgroups(292)
   dump workgroup on subnet 193.197.132.2: netmask= 255.255.255.0:
LINUX-AG(1) current master browser = PINGUIN
--------
In fact, on 193.197.132.0/24 there is a DMB called Mail1 (193.197.132.2).
Why doesn´t recognize pinguin this info? I thought the wins-server would told
pinguin, that an DMB is active on this subnet? Should i disable "local master" on
pinguin (same subnet with the DMB)?

And why isn´t there a master browser on the following subnet 193.197.133.0/24:
----------------
[1999/12/20 13:56:51, 4] nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:dump_workgroups(292)
   dump_workgroups()
      dump workgroup on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET: netmask= 193.197.133.9:
LINUX-AG(1) current master browser = UNKNOWN
                       LISA 40019a03 (Samba 2.0.6)
                       MAIL1 9a23 (Mailserver PH-Fr.)
                       PINGUIN 49a23 (Linux-Server der Linux-AG)
----------------

Right, I´ll know. The election takes place and seems to be good.

> Under Samba, the two functions are separate, and you use
> domain master = yes
Yes, I´ve only one samba host with this entry. And there is no NT-Server as PDC
in the workgroup. I only want to use the existing NT wins-server. All other
SMB services are managed by samba.

Our configuration:
-----------------------------------------

   Mail1
  -------
  workgroup = Linux-AG
  domain master = yes
preferred master = yes	*) maybe only neccesary if it´s a LMB
  local master = no
  os level = 64 *) 35 should be enough...
  wins support = no
  wins server = 193.197.133.9
This server has got interface 193.197.132.2

   Pinguin
  ---------
  workgroup = Linux-AG
  local master = yes
  preferred master = yes
  wins server = 193.197.133.9
  os level = 33
  wins support = false
This host is on the same subnet... interface 193.197.132.180

   Lisa
  ------
  workgroup = Linux-AG
  wins support = no
  wins server = 193.197.133.9
  domain master = no
  local master = yes
  os level = 34
  preferred master = yes
	Interface is 193.197.133.10

(There are some other uninteressting samba hosts...)

   Server01 NT-Server
  ----------
  PDC of another workgroup...
  WINS-Server
----------------------------------------------

Like I explained before, the NT WINS-Server has got only one <1b> record for
the workgroup linux-ag.
