I've had a Google Nexus 7 for over a year and I like it a lot. It's pretty
straighforward to set it up with multiple users if you need to:

As with any tablet, I think you're not going to want to do much on it that
involves typing. I get great value out of a second hand Lenovo X200 when I
need that sort of thing (thanks Chris!)
