 From "ps wauxf":
/usr/sbin/gdm-binary -nodaemon
 \_ /usr/libexec/gdm-simple-slave --display-id /org/gnome/DisplayManager/D
     \_ /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -nr -verbose -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-LHTB
     \_ /usr/libexec/gdm-session-worker
         \_ gnome-session
             \_ /usr/lib/gnome-session/helpers/gnome-keyring-daemon-wrappe
             \_ metacity
             \_ gnome-panel
             \_ nautilus --no-desktop --browser
             \_ /usr/libexec/vino-server

Preferences -> Internet and Network -> Remote Desktop

This menu navigation sequence invokes vino-preferences.

you can see from the tree that vino-server is invoked by gnome-session
so it would seem the answer is yes. It does need to be there in
"system->preferences->personal->sessions"
and when you stick stuff in there it ends up in
~/.config/autostart/whatever.desktop
where the gnome-setting-daemon reads it and does what it says to do.

Too easy. Huh?

Thanks for doing that for me, much appreciated. :-)

Hal
