IIRC, Tridge bought a Netgear modem or router or home DSL thingie
about a hundred years ago[0]. ISTR that he prompted them into making
their sources available via their website.

Which suggests to me that at least in the last century, Netgear had
some GPL'd software on their gear. Probably linux and a derived stack.

Which, if it hopes to be as good as every other similar device, Just
Works[tm] when you give it power and a connection to a telephone
exchange.
