I think this is a fantastic idea. One of the things that has bothered me about
the standard install-fest idea is that someone brings along their machine, gets
Linux installed then goes home with no knowledge of how to achieve anything
else. Sure there might have been some help setting up mail, or an instruction
manual; but invariably someone's forgotten to bring along their bigpond account
details or whatever, and now they feel like they've just wasted their time.
Even though it's neither the OS's fault, nor the installers fault, that person
will often end up with the conviction that Linux is a waste of time.

I love the idea of running sessions on how to paint, draw, write documents, read
documents, deal with spreadsheets (I'd love a few pointers on using OOo's one
myself) etc.

Unfortunately, I'm not in Canberra enough to help. But I may be able to arrange
a small offer of sponsorship ($100 - $200) from Perl Training Australia for some
of these sessions. Consider it some help to defray pizza, tea and coffee or
printing expenses. Would that be useful? I'd need a tax invoice from some
legal entity (CLUG, PCUG etc) but I'm sure that wouldn't be too hard to achieve. :)

Let me know whether you think this would be useful.
