Hi to those going to LCA 2006 in Dunedin! Anyone not interested in this can
tune out now... :-)

I looked at the Partners Programme just to see what they get up to and found
that they're going on a trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway on Friday. "That
sounds like fun!", said I, and since I had planned on having Sunday free after
the conference I thought I'd look into it. Luckily, the railway also runs on
the Sunday - starting at 9:30 and returning at around 3:45.

It looks like a pretty spectacular ride, going across wrought iron bridges and
through hand-hewn tunnels to Middlemarch. There are plenty of stops for
photographs and a one-hour stop for lunch, so it's pretty relaxed - to me it
sounded like an ideal cross between a way to get away from computers for a
while and yet see some impressive engineering. The trip costs about $71
return; if we can get a party of ten or more we get a 10% discount (20+ =
20%). Bookings will be important as January is their tourist season and
Sundays are especially busy.

I've put up a note on the LCA2006 Wiki, but if people can let me know if
they're interested in such an adventure then I'll see if I can get a party
together and get a discount.

See you all next Thursday (or whenever),

Paul
