For those wishing to follow this advice on general principles you can
send a message to Paul Kelly's management "Robert Barnham Management"
(rbm at paulkelly.com.au) to voice your displeasure.

My email was as follows:

Dear Sir,

I was distressed to discover that Paul's latest CD release "Ways and
Means" is on a copy protected CD. I thought I should inform you that as
a result I will not be considering purchasing this CD. I am not music
thief and I find it unacceptable that your company and EMI have assumed
that I am, and that I do not understand the terms of fair use of the
content that I purchase.

Please be assured that I will pass the word of the high regard that you
hold your customers in.

Yours Sincerely

Scott Edgecombe

Amonst all the anger that's out there over "Copy control"
the best response I've seen is to NOT buy and write politely to the
artist.
Probably more effective than writing to the company
and much better than making a scene in a store.
