Let's face reality... :-) if you want to get a 5MP under 1K you have to
compromise. There's a number of 5MP cameras (minolta's are really nice)
with 7x or 8x OZ but they are all about 1.5K or more. The HP Photosmart
495 seems a good compromise but I read different reviews and I'm not
really convinced about this camera (I didn't try it personally). I
haven't find any camera with the same value for money as the FZ-10. I'll
be very happy to have suggestion in this direction... And yes, I'd like
to have a good zoom (not less than 7x ...). With less budget constrains
the Minolta DiMAGE A1 or the Nikon Coolpix 5700 would have been my first
choices... The Olympus C-770 has also a fantastic set of features
(better than the FZ-10), but doesn't have the IS (and it's 900$...).

As you can easily understand I'm still really confused...
