It's a business decision. What they really mean is if you have problems
and you're using Linux, they won't help you.

There are two reasons why they can get away with this:
1) Linux users are a minority, and BigPond don't care about them
2) Linux users tend to have Clue (tm) and on average need less support
   anyway.

But it's a standard dialup service and will work fine under Linux.
