Problem is probably in cifs code.. use new one ;)

No.

No. You have to get a new kernel (from cifs bk tree - cifs.bkbits.net/linux-2.5cifs
or wait for merge of code in official 2.6.10). I guess that also latest mm
series has some of new code (directio).
