I tried the code posted by Eric, only putting this in a servlet
environment.

I got the code working with  all of my pc.

They were:
4 Win 2k adv Server sp3
1 NT Server sp6
1 XP Professional (version 5.1.2600)
1 win98
all of win2k Porfessional clients of my net... apart from mine !

But I think that is OK, becouse my pc is running NetBeans with Tomcat
Server, And perhaps the problem is you cannot query via lan your adapter
status.....
I didn't investigate, because was not interesting

Really interesting is that your code works fine in my net, with 5 different
kinds of hosts !
