[clug] attach terminal to screen edge

Hiya,
I've using gnome on FC3 for about 2/3 months now. Finally switch my 
desktop to Linux. I'm still a newbie.
Is it possible to attach a terminal to the side of the screen, like the 
way gnome-panel is attached. I want it to be visible when applications 
are maximised, so change the desktops view windows sorta.
