How to decrease transmission range of wireless card?

Hi.

I want to set up a ad hoc network in a small area using wireless nodes.
Basically i wnated to emulate mobility using laptops.
So I wanted to knw how to decrease the transmission range of any wireless
card?
Can it be done by varying the transmit power? OR can i increase th Receiver
Sensitivity (threshold) value?
Or does it require any hardware change to the antenna?

Please help me in this
