That would explain it.  iwconfig showed that you were in Managed mode,
but if the AP is set to ad-hoc mode you'll need to be in ad-hoc mode
too.  "iwconfig mode ad-hoc" should do the trick.

Hmm.. right, you're not the first person to ask for it.  I'll have to
find out what a driver needs to do to support bridging.
