HELP: Wireless Belconnen (CANB) area

Hi all

Am thinking about a wireless set-up; I'm in an elevated area of Evatt
(Canberra)
and I can see a large slab of north Belconnen.

Trawled through the air and Sydney wireless websites but it pre-supposes
the reader has a fair knowledge of wireless, which I don't have. 

I do have IT knowledge however, so I'm rather hoping you can direct me
to a dummies guide for the not-so-dumb. I'd like to work out what
equipment is needed for both Client and "server" setup, where to source
it, and likely cost.
