construction

I understand that this mailing list is aim'ed towards software problems, 
Would anyone know of a IRC, BBS or mailing list that is aimed for 
construction and modification of the physical units them selfs?

I ask because i am working at putting up a outdoor link between a few 
houses, and i need to attach a external antenna omni for the base.. I have 
built the omni 
from:(http://www.guerrilla.net/reference/antennas/2ghz_collinear_omni/) But 
when i attached it to my access point i observed low signal results. (i 
built the antenna for a 16 dbi gain, (40 segments snx)). I am using lmr-400 
from a access point, I soldered the lmr-400 to the really thin coax coming 
off the card. Then i soldered the other end to my antenna. I was wondering 
if i have broken any fundamental rules, or if my low results are due to bad 
tuning.. (it's hard to tune and solder at the same time. )
