Subject: [Oz-ISP] Seminars in Sydney on Sat. 9th February, 2002

You are invited to the 2600 Australia Seminar Series, to be held in
Sydney on Saturday, 9th February. Sessions begin at 1pm and run
till approximately 4pm.

Speakers this month include:
----------------------------

 * Daniel Lewkovitz, AS/NZS 17799:2001 - The Australian Standard for
                     Information Security.

Why it's important and why it's effective. A discussion on a
standardised approach to infosec in Australian organisations and how
     it deals with contemporary threats.

 * Damien Gardner (Rendrag), Packet Radio Demonstration

Demonstrating and discussing the many facets of Packet radio,
including AX.25 routing, BBS's, wormholes, and APRS - the amateur
position reporting system, a GPS/Packet radio hybrid.

 * doe, (A mystery networking topic....)

Although the topic here is somewhat up in the air because of work
and personal committments, doe will most likely discuss the ins and
outs of TCP/IP Initial Sequence Numbers, with particular reference to
the 2001 Michael Zalewski/Bindview paper on Strange Attractors and
    TCP/IP Sequence Numbers.

Location:
---------

University of Technology, "Building 1, Room 406". UTS is located
near Central Station in Sydney, and Building 1 is the well-known UTS tower
building. Room 406 is in the back left corner of the street level floor.
For those that attend Sydney Linux Users Group meetings, you will be
familiar with this room - it's the same one.

The room will be open from midday onwards, with seminars beginning at 1pm.

Additional Notes:
-----------------

* Multimedia materials from previous months are available at:

        http://www.2600.org.au/seminars/archive.html

* Broadly, the seminars will always be in three parts: an introductory
session, an intermediate session, and an advanced session.

* We're always on the lookout for people to present a 40-60 minute
technical talk or demonstration on pretty much any topic of interest
in the area of information technology, computer security, electronic
gadgetry, communications and the like.

* If you're interested in speaking at a future seminar series day or
require more information, please contact us at webmaster at 2600.org.au.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to friends, colleagues that
may be interested in these or future 2600 Australia Seminar Series events.
