Wireless extensions

Ive installed rh7.3 with out gnome or kde. I have a 233mhz laptop with
an orinoco pcmcia card.
When I plug in the card the pcmcia services loads the correct modules.
When I execute iwconfig eth0 I get...
eth0 no wireless extensions

How are the wireless extensions loaded? Isnt the 2.4.18 kernel
configured for wireless devices?
