Just to put the record straight, not being at all pedantic....

Its not rust, its more like galvanic corrosion.

Only iron and steel 'rust', other metals corrode, in this case, given the
state
of the othe conductors (that float with respect to earth and carry a little
AC between), its
galvanic. Is the case of the equipment earthed perhaps?
