error connecting to samba server

 am using samba version 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD
834-RELEASE (GENERIC)  for x86. I tried following from
a Windows 2000 server computer:

1) net view \\servername
System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.

2)net use * \\servername\tmp <password> /USER:root
System error 1240 has occurred.
The account is not authorized to log in from this
station.


Why?
