I'm running Mac OS X 10.2 which is BSD underneath.

mount_smbfs //system:(my password)@192.168.0.254/Music
~/Desktop/Music/

this returns:

kextload: extension
/System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext is already
loaded
mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr =
Authentication error

mount_smbfs //guest at 192.168.0.254/Music
~/Desktop/Music/

returns the kextload line, then asks for password. I
hit return because it's guest, then it returns the
same unable to open connection line.

I enter:

smbclient //192.168.0.254/Music -U system

it returns:

added interface ip=192.168.0.100 bcast=192.168.0.255
nmask=255.255.255.0

and asks for password. I enter the passord and I get:

Domain=[SERVER] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.7]

and a prompt.

I tried:

smbclient //192.168.0.254/Music -U guest -N

and get:

added interface ip=192.168.0.100 bcast=192.168.0.255
nmask=255.255.255.0
Domain=[SERVER] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.2.7]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD

I suspect guest access isn't turned on properly on the
samba server, however, mount_smbfs should work when I
enter my user/pass!
