I would warn that what seems like an easy thing to start is a very hard
thing to finish and an even harder thing to leave.

I would warn that if anyone start to provide packages, that folks soon
start to expect that these packages be kept up to date.  And I don't
just means maintenance releases as planned, but at a constant pace if
maintaining 3 versions, but also security updates, sometimes
significant ones.

This is a big task, and one that doesn't wait for $DAY_JOB, $NIGHT_JOB,
weekends with the kids or weekend tramps (hikes for those not in NZ)
wilderness.

The worst bit is when your own local need has gone away, but you feel
you need to continue to maintain these.  Samba in Debian was kept alive
thanks to the tireless work of Mathieu Parent long past  the point
where he had a personal/professional interest. We thank him greatly,
but give this warning because we know the burden it placed.

And finally the situation around LDB just makes it even more
unpleasant, so it would be easier to just package from the point where
Michael has re-bundled that, not older releases.
