I've added the smb.conf and some log samples before the breakage. Also, I found out that the Authentication messages do not vanish, they are sent to /var/log/samba/log.samba instead of the file specified in smb.conf. The same problem also affect various dsdb_xxx logs (which are also sent in log.samba)
