I think there's no 'good link', apart samba wiki.

But consider the option of start up a different domain, AD, from the
current one; until you can keep username and password in sync between
domains, you can use both in the same network (or, at least, the new
domain can use resoruces from the old one).

This let you test the new domain deeply, adding missing schema,
building up scripting and tools, ...


You can keep password in sync between domain building some
'comunication tool' between 'check password script' in old, NT one, and
this for AD:
