Hai,

I suggest for your monitoring, setup an caching name server.
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-configure-bind-as-a-private-network-dns-server-on-debian-9
A desent base to start ready.

This speeds up your resolving a lot and that helps you monitoring also.
Optional you can make this dns server also a slave dns and caching dns.

This would be my preffered setup.
Slave dns, now if you primary DNS isnt resolving, you slave responces always, because it still has the zones.
Caching dns, because it speeds up your resolving a lot.

One sidenote,
Make sure you monitoring is monitoring the this dns server also.
Maybe add some logging to it also, so you can see/detect errors more easy.

Greetz,

Louis
