Possibly because the SID of the PDC is the SID of the domain? Maybe
something resolves the name one way while another works the other.
[root at littleboy ~]# net getlocalsid
SID for domain BARBEL is: S-1-5-21-2037442776-3290224752-88127236
[root at littleboy ~]# net getdomainsid
SID for local machine BARBEL is: S-1-5-21-2037442776-3290224752-88127236
SID for domain BACKBONE is: S-1-5-21-2037442776-3290224752-88127236
