192.168.1.255 is the broadcast address on 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 network. Your ppp0 interface is a point-to-point address 192.168.1.128/255.255.255.255 in a completely different network (despite sharing its ip address with one in your existing network).

Broadcasts for one network are not going to appear on another...
