Ok, so it can't find the domain controller by NetBIOS name...

You haven't said the basics, so please forgive me if I make easy 
suggestions.

1.
Can you ping the server from the workstation, and vica-versa?
2.
On the server, what is the output of smbclient -L 127.0.0.1
3.
On the server, what is the output of smbclient -L server
4.
On the workstation, are you able to browse to the server successfully?
