[Samba] Can't browse or connect to smb://server/homes anymore

This unanswered post is exactly my question:

Used to be able to connect to \\server\homes and can't
anymore. This is useful to me since I have .bat
scripts where I simply map user shares via 'homes'. I
have a work around, but isn't as nice and clean as it
was before. The real question is, is this an
intentional change, bug, or do we have something
misconfigured? Using version
3.0.23d-6-1083-SUSE-SL10.2

ps. browseable = yes does nothing.
