Okay, 3.0.23d-2 from Debian Etch installed. But that still seems to mount 
smbfs. Where do I get cifs file system from? I use kernel 2.6.13. I am not 
keen on compiling the kernel.

I think I have to consult him. Up to now the locking behavior is the same.
