getent passwd | grep 'dave' shows
ADS-Name+dave:*:16777216:16777217:David Rigler:/home/dave:/bin/false
ADS_Name+davez$:*:16777217:16777219:DAVEZ:/home/davez_:/bin/false

that second line, davez is the name of the XP box

i tried adding "valid user" to the [homes] section but nothing worked

valid users = %S - same as original error
valid users = ADS-Name+%S or valid users = ADS-Name/%S , brings up a login box, nothing i enter will pass
