[Samba] "smbclient -M <machinename>" generates "session request failed" - why?

Hi All,

When I try to do "cat message.txt | smbclient -M <machinename>" or
"smbclient -M <machinename>", I get:

added interface ip=192.168.0.100 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
<snip all other interfaces; about 25 more>
Got a positive name query response from 192.168.0.12 ( 192.168.0.12 )
session request failed

What does "session request failed" mean? I note that it did correctly find
the box I wanted to send the message to (192.168.0.12). Also, if I do
"nmblookup <machinename>", it once again finds the right IP address.

I am running Samba 2.2.6pre2on Mandrake 9.0. The box is running as a PDC
for 4 XP Pro boxes, and seems to run perfectly (occasionally (about once per
1.5 weeks) nmbd crashes, though... not sure why. "service smb restart"
fixes it.). We can view, modify, and create files on the linux PDC box with
no problems.

Any pointers?
